Taking care of someone who has a life changing or terminal physical condition can be very draining. The emotions can be overwhelming at times and the need to manage them is very important to maintain emotional health.
When a person takes on the role of caregiver, more times than not they have not had any training in how to deal with the emotions and stress associated with care giving. Teaching the caregiver how to manage their stress and provide them with the emotional tools to manage the situation is what’s offered.
Typical examples are caregivers of someone with a chronic illness like Alzheimer’s or a person who is physically disabled and requires 24 hour care. Other examples are parents of hyperactive children who for lack of better words are out of control.
